Working at Missionary Flights International & Fun at Vero Beach

The beginning of the week was very fun for my family and I. We went to Missionary Flights in Fort Pierce (my dad and I do the website and communications for them) for a few days. My dad was working on a grant for their "Repaint N300MF" fund, and didn't bring two computers, so I helped out in the warehouse and the hangar. N300MF is one of MFI's radial engined DC-3s, which had an engine failure in the Bahamas and was stranded for four months under the blazing sun.

You can guess the condition of the paint! The paint is fading and wearing off, and the metal underneath is corroding, as you can see in the photos below.

The only way to effectively fix it is to grind down and repaint it, which for an airplane that size is about $33,000 dollars. My dad was able send the grant out on Tuesday the 1st, so hopefully MFI will get the grant for this much needed repair. You can see other projects at the Missionary Flights website (a good amount of it done by me).

On a lighter note, I went to a real beach this week, Vero Beach, which is just north of Fort Pierce! Boy was it fun to have real waves for once! Here's a photo:
